I am so excited to start the new school year, 2011-2012, opening a brand new school. The moment I found out that I was going to a new school, words could not describe the excitement I experienced.
You see, last school year I was a counselor at two different elementary schools and it was so difficult to built a rapport with the staff and students. It was also my first year as an elementary school counselor after being a middle and high school counselor for 6 years. Many times my office was my car because I did not have a place where I could save many of the things I needed. It was an extremely difficult year but I did learn a lot. The two schools that I had the privilage to work at were both exemplary schools and even though I did not have a "mentor" counselor to help me, I learned a lot from the different things that were done through the school by the different teachers. But enough of the past, let's get to the new school, office, and classroom.
New School:
Here are some pictures of the inside of the new school. It is two-stories high and it has the latest technology through out the building.
My New Office:
With built-in desk and lots of cabinets, I have storage for all of my things. Love the color.
The Classroom:
Our principal wants us, the counselors, to incorporate Art with the counseling lessons. The moment he suggested that to us our faces lite up with excitement and we began to plan and come up with ideas.
This blog is going to show you my lessons during this school year and what Art activities I used. Some of the activities and lessons will be taken from other professional counselors who have wonderful ideas and many are going to be my ideas. Enjoy!
